Producing basic quality cheddar has long been a staple of the New Zealand
dairy industry — higher quality cheeses have been but a marginal
production activity. New Zealand has the quality of milk and the
capability to produce food products that compare more than favourably with
those from any other country in the world. Kaimai is determined to be
noted for its unswerving commitment to producing quality and taste in its
products.
Kaimai and Open Country
Kaimai is closely associated with Open Country Cheese, although not in any
formal legal sense. Open Country has agreed to supply Kaimai with the raw
materials necessary for specialty cheese production. Open Country Cheese
commenced production October 2004.Cheeses from Open Country won three
medals in the New Zealand Cheese Awards 2006 with its very first entries
into the competition. They were:
- Colby GOLD
- Havarti SILVER
- Edam BRONZE"
